The Bellefonte Chapter, NSDAR, is a local chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), which is a women's service organization for descendants of Patriots of the American Revolutionary War.
Our chapter supports state and National Society projects, as well as local efforts within Centre County.
Historic Preservation
More than 80 grave sites of American Revolutionary War soldiers who are buried across Centre County are decorated with Betsy Ross flags for Memorial Day.
Cleaning and preservation of gravestones in local cemeteries.
Promote local history by staffing a booth at the Grange Fair and the Boalsburg Memorial Day Festival.
Educational Programs
Host an American History Essay Contest for students in grades five through eight.
Honor the top students in American history at area high schools with Excellence in American History DAR Awards.
Provide DAR Good Citizens Awards to local high school students.
Recognize and award medals to outstanding Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets at Penn State.
Sponsor students for various college scholarships.
Patriotic Endeavors
Present U.S. flags, Flag Codes, and citizenship packets to new citizens at Naturalization Court held at the Centre County Courthouse.
Send holiday gifts and cards to veterans at Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home.
Participate in Wreaths Across America to decorate veterans' graves at Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
If you are a woman descended from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War, you are eligible for membership in NSDAR.
